ABOUT

Brooklyn-based harpist Dr. Chelsea Lane graduated magna cum laude from Yale University with a Bachelor of Arts in Music, completed her Master of Arts in Harp Performance with grote onderscheiding (“high honors”) at the Royal Conservatory in Brussels, and received her D.M.A. in Music Performance from The Graduate Center, CUNY in NYC.

A versatile musician, Dr. Lane is equally at home performing on Broadway (Wicked, Sweeney Todd, Paradise Square, Christmas Spectacular Starring the Radio City Rockettes), as she is in classical symphonic settings as a guest artist for ensembles such as the Czech Philharmonic, The Metropolitan Opera, Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, New Jersey Symphony, and Wheeling Symphony Orchestra, among others.

As a prizewinner in several national and international competitions, including the American Harp Society’s Young Professional Competition, the Anne Adams Awards, the Minnesota Symphony Orchestra Young Artist Concerto Competition, the Lyon and Healy Awards, and the ASTA National Solo Competition, Dr. Lane is well-equipped to prepare harp students in her private studio and at the university level for musical success. Dr. Lane’s doctoral dissertation “The Feminine Harp as Feminist Tool: Early Professional Footing for Women in Mid-Twentieth-Century America” further informs her teaching as Adjunct Artist in Harp at Vassar College and Adjunct Assistant Professor of Harp, Chamber Music, and Music History at the College of Staten Island, CUNY, as well as her innovative solo and chamber concert programming.

Chelsea is WONDERFUL! She has supported every aspect of our son’s development with regard to his harp playing and we are so grateful for her support!! Chelsea is a top professional and anyone would be lucky to have her teach music!! —Mary

Chelsea is a fantastic teacher who combines a disciplined mastery of the harp with a genuine understanding of each student. She is engaging and kind with children and a lovely person and teacher in every way. We love working with her and it has been extremely gratifying to witness our children’s progress under her tutelage ! I feel so lucky to have her as our teacher. —Mipta

I had the benefit of taking lessons from Chelsea after I had been learning to play for a bit over a year. She was both encouraging and warm personally, and gave me several ways to think about technique, which helped a great deal. She was able to give me insights to help me get into music theory, as well as technique and practical questions, all so valuable for a beginner! —Stephanie
